Delores Spurlock
Welcome to the Delores Spurlock web site.
This is me on my trip last year in Alaska. The scenery was fantastic and I got to see eagles, geese, ducks, swans, caribou, dahl sheep, red fox, and grizzly bear.
My sister said that I got to see more grizzlies than most people that have lived there all their lives.
As you can see the picture above was not taken in Alaska but the Yukon. I started my trip by flying into Anchorage and meeting my sister. The two of us drove from there to Haines. In order to get to Haines you have to go through Canada. Since I had never been to the area before and our deadline was to be in Haines to catch the Ferry to Sitka in six days; we had some time to take a side trip to Skagway.
Traveling in Alaska and Canada is not exactly like traveling in the lower states. The signs are few and far between and so are the service stations.
Trying to figure out how far you have traveled is more like keeping up with the mileage on your vehicle. Most of the roads were not that bad. There was work being done on some of them and we had to be escorted through those areas.
The only sign that they seem to post is Rough Road. This could mean anything from slightly bumpy to extremely hazardous. Of course the pot holes they didn't warn you about were the ones that were really bad.
I am posting this web page to share with you the sights that I caught on film.
I hope you enjoy it and let me know what you think.
